About the Department
A ray of hope for the people of Vilavancode Taluk glittered in Marthandam in the year 1964.  It sprang up as an Arts and Science College, established by the church of South India, Kanyakumari Diocese, and affiliated to Madras University.  The institution was named Christian College and later chrisened as Nesamony Memorial College.
The department of Computer Science was established in NMCC in 1988, when a wave of Information Technology was about to sweep over the South-Asian Nations.
The Department of Computer Science has an intake of only 40 students. But there are usually 450 applications. In order to ease the pressure and accommodate as many students as possible, we applied for an additional batch in 2001.  The Manonmaniam Sundaranar university sent a commission to study the possibility of sanctioning, one more batch of Computer Science. As per the recommendation of the commission, the University granted permission to start an Extension Batch from the academic year 2001-2002, with student strength of 40.
